Got the CAB colour. Love it.
Xmusic were great at communicating with me about the order.
Point express did the delivery and their tracking never worked, but that’s not on xmusic.
The guitar: the gold foil pickups (though they’re not really true gold foils) give a wonderful, fuzzy sound, like the that on I Got Mine by the Black Keys. 3 of them, with the individual pickup selectors, give a fantastic range of sounds. Especially if you move your hand to play directly over the pickup of choice. They are more quiet than humbuckers or p90s, so up your gain or your volume. Some may find that they catch the middle pickup while playing with a pick, but if you play pizzicato you’ll have no issues.
The longer neck gives the usual greater range of the jazzmaster, but with the unique pickups, the non standard fretboard wood, and the lack of weight relief in the body, it has a sound unlike any fender I’ve ever played. Warmer and darker, but still not so much as a Les Paul or SG, and more fuzzy. The neck is rather thicker than most fenders, and with the weight of the guitar and offset body, the whole thing feels quite bulky in the hands. Doesn’t bother me but may bother others.
The bigsby is lovely looking but a little less flexible than the usual jazzmaster bar. It also makes it slightly awkward to get at the tone control, but only slightly.
The whole “made in Mexico” issue is complete nonsense. It only matters to Americans fooled by the myth of American exceptionalism. They’re made on CNC machines, just as the US ones are. There are no issues with build quality whatsoever.
Fender cheaped out on the gig bag that comes with the guitar. It barely fits the guitar, has minimal padding, and is made of cheap material. At this price point I’m not expecting a hard case, but at least a decent bag should come with it.
Overall, a wonderful, unique guitar.
