Building The Vela

Unusually for a PRS, the Vela comes to you with an offset body waist, designed to make for a more comfortable playing experience, whether you’re seated or standing.

This body is constructed from a piece of solid Mahogany, which offers a naturally warm tone and plenty of ringing sustain.

In addition to this, the neck is also carved from Mahogany, and given a Pattern Regular shape that’s suited to most playstyles.

Pickguard-Loaded Electronics

Another departure from traditional PRS design, the pickups and electronics system on the S2 Vela are loaded onto the pickguard, rather than directly mounted into the body.

Sitting in the neck position we have a PRS-Designed Type-D Single Coil pickup, which gives the guitar some noteworthy bite.

In addition to this, at the bridge position there’s a PRS-Designed DS-01 humbucker, which adds a bright, punky tone.

There’s a 3-way pickup selector, Master Volume, and Master Tone control for you to fine-tune your sound as well. The Tone control features a Push/Pull Coil-Tap function that – when activated – will split the humbucker into Single Coils, offering a bright and balanced tone that will cut through the mix with ease.

Top Notch Hardware

In addition to the inclusion of a PRS S2 Locking Tuners set, the S2 Vela comes equipped with a plate-style 2-saddle bridge – both of which work together perfectly to delivery incredible levels of tuning stability.

This bridge harkens back to Paul Reed Smith’s early guitar designs, and whilst the saddle can be adjusted accordingly for precise intonation, the bridge is top-loaded for quick and easy string changes.
