Sometimes, less is more. Simply put, the Sonor Perfect Balance Standard Bass Drum Pedal is a stripped back, no-frills edition of the Jojo Mayer Signature model. This pedal is the ultimate example of streamlining; all of the sophisticated features that adorn the Signature model have been stripped out, leaving the nucleus of the pedal to stand alone – its star feature, the brilliant Perfect Balance drive system.

This simplified, standard version of the Mayer Signature pedal is certainly not a lesser model; where the signature model benefits from its additional features, the standard model benefits by removing them and showcasing the brilliant design of its star feature in its pure form.

There’s no folding pedal feature here, nor will you find the self-mounting clamp mechanism. Gone are the laser engraved heel plate and lacquered footboard. What is left is what counts – the precision calibrated drive system that optimises the linear translation of your foot movement to ensure a Perfect Balance between forward and backward beater motion.

This system relies upon a few important design principles. First of all, we have a combined beater hub and cam, which eliminate unnecessary mass on the drive shaft and the possibility of unwanted movement between them. This also allows the pedal to achieve perfect calibration between spindle weight and the weight of the footboard. Next, a round cam, which equalises the speed of the beaters forward and backwards motion.

Unlike the vast majority of bass drum pedals that utilise a two-post, framed construction, the Perfect Balance Standard boast a one post design that allows for unrestricted foot movement. In addition to this, there’s a smooth-surfaced longboard style footboard. The combination of these two features allows for fantastic board access and in turn, more style and leverage options.

All of these great touches are elements of the same feature – The Perfect Balance drive, that offers a superbly balanced feel for strokes that are exceptionally smooth and consistent. The drive design makes you work with the bass drum pedal instead of against it, resulting in a brilliantly responsive and silky-smooth performance.
